Boys Before Flowers (꽃보다 男子)

Summary: This is the korean remake of Japan’s bestselling manga, Hana Yori Dango, and the hit Taiwan series, Meteor Garden. One day, delivering the laundry for a student at the expensive and prominent Shinhwa High School, poor girl Guem Jan Di accidentally saves a life and inadvertently receives a scholarship to said school in order to avoid scandal and bad reputations. There, she meets Korea’s F4, four rich, wealthy, handsome friends that preside over Shinhwa and Korea. The leader, Gu Jun Pyo, immediately butts heads with the opinionated Geum Jan Di, whilst she finds herself falling in love with another member, Yoon Ji Hoo. Soon, strong feelings arise between Jun Pyo and Jan Di. But the road to love is not smooth at all. On the way, there’s Jun Pyo’s evil mother, the difference between their social classes, the three mean girls and endless difficulties. Starring Goo Hye Sun (구혜선), Lee Min Ho (이민호), Kim Hyun Joong (김현중), Kim Bum (김범), Kim Joon (김형준), Kim So Eun (김소은).

Review: I really enjoyed this drama. It’s probably the most unhealthy, useless thing I watched that year, but it was very entertaining to watch (sort of like ice cream). I must admit, the plot drags a bit and the acting can be very over-the-top at times, but I adored Jun Pyo and he just saved the show. A key factor that I admire this drama is SoEulmates. And for those of you that don’t know what that is, it’s the side pairing of Yi Jung (a member of the F4) and Ga Eul (Jan Di’s best friend) which achieved the worship of netizens (myself included). Anyway, it was fun to watch, but I did skip a few scenes. I wouldn’t watch it again and again.

Rating: 6.5/10
