News: Jiro Wang Stranded in Holland

Jiro Wang who went to Amsterdam, Holland to do some photoshoots for his art photobook, was supposed to be back in Taiwan April 19 but due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland, he has been forced to stay in Holland. Luckily Jiro is a very optimistic guy because he won’t be able to take a flight home until Friday at the earliest. Due to too many tourists left stranded in Europe as a result of the eruption, food and accomodation costs have trebled, with a crew of over 10 people in Holland, it’s expected that they will have to spend an extra $NT1.5 million.

Besides this, the meteorological office of South Korea has predicted that the volcanic ash will reach the Korean Peninsula and China’s north/east on April 20. In regards to the weather in Taiwan, the weather bureau has expressed that the chance of the volcanic ash affecting Taiwan shouldn’t be very big.

Not knowing when he’ll be back, many fans have been very worried even communicating online with fans from Europe, trying to find out whether Jiro is okay. Artist Jiro Wang, “Hello everyone, I’m tourist Da Dong. Originally I was going to return to Taiwan but have a look behind me.”

News: Jun Su’s Sohu Special Interview

Special interview with Kim Junsu: A new Japanese single, hoping to show colorful self


Since the contract dispute between the three members of TVXQ, Kim Jaejoong, Park Yochun, Kim Junsu, and SM Entertainment in July 2009, their recent activities have always been the focus of the media. In the afternoon on the 28th of March, Junsu’s twin brother Kim Junho held his debut showcase in Beijing. As a strong support, Junsu appeared on the spot, giving more power to his brother. After singing Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All,” Junsu accepted the special interview from Sohu.

In the limited interview time, Junsu shows his perseverance and passion towards his music career. He is passionate towards his solo Japanese single. When talking about the Chinese fans, he first said, “I feel very sorry for them,” but he specially expressed his hopes to have chance to hang on in China, to sing more songs to Chinese fans.

SOHU: As the first solo which you have challenged, the Musical Mozart is very successful. What did you gain and what are your feelings during the period?

Junsu: (Thank you.) The musical is a brand new style that I challenged for the first time. I felt nervous, and also worried about it at that time. I’m fortunate enough to be able to work with experienced seniors. I feel very happy I finished it smoothly.

Celebrity of the Day: Ariel Lin

Ariel Lin (林依晨) was born in Taipei on October 29, 1982. She is amongst the most prominent Taiwanese actresses of today and also debuted as a singer. Not only that, she also released two books: ‘Ariel Lin’s New York Bagel Diary (林依晨的紐約貝果日記)’ and ‘Ariel’s Blog (林家女孩依晨的青春部落格)’.

Her first drama was ‘True Love 18 (十八歲的約定)’ in 2002. After, she acted in a variety of shows. Her big break came in 2004 when she starred alongside Mike He (賀軍翔) in the hit drama ‘Love Contract (愛情合約).

But Ariel’s biggest hit came the year after, in 2005 when she starred in the Taiwanese drama, ‘It Started With a Kiss (惡作劇之吻)’ with Joe Cheng (鄭元暢). The drama met with wild reviews and helped her rise to fame. The two later co-starred again in the drama’s sequel: ‘They Kiss Again (惡作劇2吻)’ as well as another drama: ‘Love or Bread (我的億萬麵包)’.

News: Barbie Hsu for PETA

Taiwanese  star,  Barbie Hsu (徐熙媛), stars in a new pro-vegetarian ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia.


In the ad, which was released today, Hsu shows off her sexy curves in a “Powered by Tofu” T-shirt and an unbuttoned pair of short shorts, striking a fierce pose next to the words “I Am Barbie Hsu, and I Am a Vegetarian.”

Celebrity of the Day: Inoue Mao

Plenty of people have seen the extremely popular Japanese drama, Hana Yori Dango. The pretty Inoue Mao (井上 真央), born January 9, 1987, was the main actress of the drama. She has been acting for a long time, starring in small roles ever since the young age of five. But it was in 1999 in the drama, Kids War (キッズ・ウォー ~ざけんなよ~) that audiences began to really take notice of the rising star.

In 2005, Mao dominated the screens with Hana Yori Dango (花より男子) where she starred as Makino Tsukushi (牧野 つくし) alongside the band, Arashi’s, member Matsumoto Jun (松本 潤). The drama was hugely successful (note: see JDrama section for Ratings & Review) and the sequel, Hana Yori Dango Returns (花より男子 ~リターンズ~) aired in 2007 under great anticipation.

He’s your regular superman. Composer, singer, musician, actor, film director, rapper, record producer, DJ, MV director, model, screenwriter and music arranger, Jay Chou (周杰倫) has it all. Born in January, 1979, Jay is one of the most well-known stars in Taiwan, if not Asia. His talent began when he was just a child, starting cello lessons, messing around with his tape recorder, piano lessons. His mother encouraged his abilities and interests. Grades inadequate for University, Jay prepared to enroll into mandatory military service. However, a sports injury prevented him from performing his service, so he took a job as a waiter.

Around this time, he and a friend entered into the competition, Super New Talent King. His friend sang whilst Jay accompanied. They did not win, but the show’s host was impressed by Jay’s complex arrangement. Thus, Jay became a contract composer.
